Salud San Carlos

Salud San Carlos

When tasked with designing a new identity program for San Carlos Borromeo Hospital in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, I began by researching the origin of its name. I learned that the hospital is named after Saint Charles Borromeo, the Archbishop of Milan in the 1500s, who hailed from the noble Borromeo family.

The family’s coat of arms featured the Borromean rings, which are often interpreted as a symbol of the Holy Trinity and are believed to have inspired the Olympic rings. This discovery sparked the idea to create a logo using three overlapping hands, symbolizing care and health, as the core design element.
